Engineered wood products is the name given to the group of products made up of composite lumber used primarily in floor systems. Leduc Truss carries wood I-Joists in 9 1/2”, 11 7/8”, 14” and 16” depths. These are also available in three series of strengths of joists. JSI20 and JSI30 series of joists are 2 1/2” wide and JSI40 series of joists are 3 1/2” wide. Leduc Truss also stocks a full range of hangers and connecting hardware to complete any floor system.
I-Joists are primarily used in floor systems but can also be used to frame some types of roof systems or be used in conjunction with parallel chord open web roof or floor trusses.
Engineered I-Joists were developed to replace dimensional lumber in floor systems. Their advantages are they are stronger and span further, are straighter and uniform in depth and come in any length. They are also less susceptible to shrinkage. Shrinkage in dimensional lumber can cause floor joists to warp and twist leading to squeaks in the floor system. The unique design of floor I-Joists also allow for holes to be cut through them in certain locations for plumbing pipes and mechanical ducts.
Leduc Truss has set itself apart from other floor system suppliers in the Edmonton region by carrying the widest range of engineered wood products available. Whether you are looking for the most affordable product (9 1/2” I-Joist) or you wish to get the maximum span (16” I-Joist), Leduc Truss can design it. This choice of selection extends to the rim-board and pony wall ends supplied for the perimeter of the building right down to the wide selection of adjustable steel columns available.
